Week 13 – Saturday, October 19, 2019

Hey everybody! Kaylin here ? Hope everyone is having good runs, and hope you’ve been able to get out there and enjoy some of this “on again off again” cool-ish weather!!!! It sure is teasing us, right? If we play a little “hard to get,” you think it will stick around awhile? #JustSayin

It’s amazing how many people have already run their “A” races (or at least one of their A’s for you multi-race-addicted folks) this year!! Wowzers. Recover ya’ll, don’t cheat that recovery time……if you rush back too fast, you’ll just continue to push yourself that much further “behind the 8 ball” and it becomes a never ending “fatigue” cycle. REST. Your muscles will thank you for it. Also, anyone experience that #PostRaceBlues feeling? It can be real ya’ll – you train so long and hard for something, all the build-up and excitement, and then POOF, it’s over! At first you’re like “OH Thank GOD that’s over!” followed in a few days (or few hours) with a feeling of “…um…now what?” As anyone who’s run a race or 200, we all can relate to some of those emotions. Just be patient (easier said than done!). There are a bunch of hard-training folks still ramping up for races that would LOVE some speedy pacers on all or parts of training runs here and there, and would LOVE to listen to your race stories – those make some of the BEST run-versations ? LOL

We are at week 13 of training, and are 13 weeks out from Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Half Marathon. What this means is the training will continue to build from this point forward. You should start focusing your training on experimenting with running your full or half marathon paces. This cooler weather will continue to be on-and-off, so at times the weather will be more accommodating to hitting your racing paces. But as all of the leaders and I have stated MULTIPLE times throughout the season, don’t push it if you’re nursing an injury. If you’re nursing injuries, then please take it easy or rest. A training run is not something you’ll earn a medal for, so listen to your body so we can be sure you make it to that “start line.” Also, your (pre/post) race nutrition should be being practiced on these runs (yes, it takes practice.) You don’t want to have to think about this stuff, it should be as automatic as the run itself. And you never want to be trying new nutrition routines on race day…..you never know what your body is going to have to say about something new!! We want NO SURPRISES on race day – so practice it all now during training. ?

From here on out, every weekend is a race weekend for SOMEBODY! Good luck to all the participants this weekend and there are lots of opportunities to cheer for our members at these races.

#PARRHelpers

How many of you are running the Houston Half downtown in 2 weeks? And how many of you would LOVE there to be a #PARRHomeBase before and after the run to congregate??? Well, we have a chance to create this space for us, but we NEED a few volunteers to help get the tent set up on race morning. If you’re running the race, it’s probably not as feasible for you to do, but if you are CHEERING someone in the race, maybe you could help us? Let us know if this sounds like something you can help with by either replying to this email or posting on Andrea’s FB message asking for volunteers.

#PARRswag

Be sure to get your shirt orders placed with David at Wild Pear. And did you know they got some pretty awesome jackets that you can order? I KNOW. Go get one. Or three. David has requested for all shirt orders to be placed before 10/31/2019
