WEEK 16 – Saturday, 11/03/18

Hi Y’all,

I added some hash tags. For those of you who want to skip to what’s happening for this week’s run, skip to #PARRThisWeek and get our info!

For those of you interested in what everybody is up to….read on! 🙂

#PARRRacing !!

We had another great weekend of racing for our members where at least 50 members ran the Houston Half Marathon and 10k race, 3 members completed the Marine Corps full marathon, and at least 10 members competed in the first annual Waco Half Ironman.

A few of our members like John and Maca Martin completed their first half marathon so huge congratulations to them. John and Maca shared with me before the race that they had not been able to train due to injuries and they weren’t sure if they would be able to finish the race. We’re very happy for them and any other members who completed their first half marathon or 10k race last Sunday. Several members also hit their PRs and congratulations to Jeff Burch on running a 1:29:xx (sub 1:30 HM and quite an accomplishment) and Daniel Imreke for getting really close by running a PR of 1:30:41 HM.

We had Dan David, Lea De Jesus and Portia Fondarina who traveled and completed the Marine Corp Marathon. Talk about a hilly and yet very nostalgic, emotional and memorable race. Very inspiring that you all ran this one.

Similarly, we had several members, Beth Fabrega, Shannon Stroope and I apologize since I’m sure I’m leaving out some other members who completed their very first half ironman in Waco, TX. There was quite a group for this race! Even though their swim leg was unfortunately canceled due to dangerous water conditions, their accomplishments and the accomplishments of our other members are simply amazing.

For this weekend, we have several PARR members competing in the Oilman Half Ironman in Conroe, TX. As always, we wish them a safe race. Additionally, a few of us including: Christine Henry, Jhopi Palomares and yours truly will be headed up to New York to run in the NYC Marathon.

#PARRPresentations

DON’T FORGET, WE HAVE TWO EXCITING PRESENTATIONS FOR OUR MEMBERS COMING UP!!

November 3, 2018 C. Foster Physical Therapy Presentation after Saturday run at Wild Pear @ 7:30 a.m.
Do you have a sprain, strain, or nagging pain? Some of us may be dealing with these conditions now so we are lucky to have a new guest speaker join us this week. C. Foster Physical Therapy will be offering free injury screenings after the run on Saturday Nov. 3rd in the Wild Pear parking lot. During your free screening, a licensed physical therapist will check your muscles and joints. You will then be provided with a recommendation on the next steps to take to get you moving better. Each screening should take about 5-10 minutes!

November 10, 2018 “ELDOA” Presentation after Saturday run at Wild Pear @ 7:30 a.m.
ELDOA – sounds “woo”, what is this? I’m especially excited this presentation. From ELDOA’s website, it is:

State-of-the-art techniques that specialize in nerve compression, muscular imbalances, joint dysfunction, back pain, neck pain, headaches and other related conditions that are spine related. E.L.D.O.A. is applicable to persons of all fitness levels – from athletes to those just starting their fitness journey, E.L.D.O.A. supplies the tools you need to correct and alleviate postural and injury related pain in the body.

I stumbled upon this method of fascia stretching when I was listening to a podcast. I found some youtube videos and practiced it and thought it may be beneficial to our members.

I located an ELDOA certified instructor, Kevin Cruz, in Houston and he agreed to do a group class for our members. You will get more out of this class if you actively participate so it is suggested you bring your yoga mat.

You can search on youtube for ELDOA and you’ll find more information about their system of stretching. ELDOA can be a full body method of stretching but I’ve asked Kevin to focus on the stretching poses that would be more beneficial to runners.

Kevin provided us with more information about ELDOA that I included at the end of this newsletter.

I hope you all can make both presentations, even if you’re not able to run on these Saturdays.

#PARR Shirts

Because David knows us all too well, he’s extending his LAST CALL on shirts…the MUST HAVE orange t’s/tanks and also the new, ever-so-comfy athleisure wear in Black and Grey. Size up in these, as they run small. Go by the store if you wanna try on before you order or just call and let him or Debbye Brown know what you want. DO THIS BY MONDAY, friends…Because you won’t be able to handle the eye rolls if you ask after this.
