WEEK 19 – Gobble, Wobble, RUN!

Gobble, Gobble Y’all,

I hope everyone has changed out of their running clothes into their EATING PANTS! Enjoy your day with your friends and families and eat all the foods! ‘Cause we’re fixin’ to burn ALL the calories.

First, thanks to everyone who made it out on Saturday evening for our first ever Wild Pear + Guest Speaker Night! We had a great turnout, gave some love to Wild Pear and learned a bunch too! Huge thanks to David at Wild Pear for hosting us, feeding us and drinking us and prizing us! THREE FREE PAIRS OF SHOES! Congrats to Karen, Hellen and Paige…WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!

Also big thanks to Brian Ranney of Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. He gave a fantastic talk and demonstration on the importance of Hip/Glut strength for runners…and what can happen without it. Olivia was super sweet and recorded the whole thing, below. Unfortunately, she got my incoherent introduction to Brian, so do yourself a favor and quickly skip to Brian at :40 in the video. What I WAS TRYING TO SAY…was that several years ago, I had been seeing a sports chiropractor in town and they were diligently treating my IT Band at my knee. Soft tissue work. Lots of focus right where the pain was. And determined that I was pronating and that was causing my IT Band issues. And needing new stability shoes to prevent it. Brian suggested, after seeing me run, that I try strengthening my hips…because I was having a significant hip drop (right hip lower than my left), causing my knee to go inward, causing me to pronate. After doing these exercises and getting my hips strengthened, the other issues resolved themselves. THAT is what I was trying to say. And of course, thanks to Khon for volunteering to demo!

PLEASE RSVP: Jingle Bell Run

Please take a minute to RSVP your kiddos if you’re able to come to the Jingle Bell Run on December 17 at Centennial Park: https://goparr.com/store/parr-events/jingle-bell-run-2016/ Just remember you have to be logged in to the PARR website and sometimes, the thing doesn’t like a phone or an ipad. It will be a huge help with planning activities and refreshments.

REMINDER: Switching Races

Just a reminder for folks wanting to switch between the Houston Full & Half Marathon…there is a price increase to switch next week. Right now it’s only $20, plus the difference in entry fee (when going from Half to Full). I know there are some of you out there…don’t make me call you out by name. Here is a quick link to knock that out: https://secure5.marathonguide.com/register/HoustonMarathon2017/ChangeRace.cfm?RL=2

Saturday Details

We will all be meeting out of Wild Pear on Saturday again…with another finish all over the place. It’s a holiday weekend, so tough to know how many folks are going to be running! But it’s an easy run and a great time to match up with someone new to grind it out! Can’t run on Saturday? Find someone…and get out there on Magnolia…check/post the Facebook Page for more info on times/distances/paces!
