WEEK 7 – Saturday, 09/01/18

Hi Y’all,

Yay, it’s Labor Day Weekend!  I’ll keep it short this week.

We have 2 more weeks of hills, but this will be the last week for the half marathoners and the walking group.  The alternating weeks of hill training and timed runs are focused on building your running base and strength.  Once the hills are finished, the training plan will be focused on slowly building speed and stamina as we increase the miles.

There is a chance of thunderstorms throughout this weekend, so please pay attention to any FB posts about cancellations. Our group will run in rain, but not in thunderstorms. We don’t want runners on the bridge if there are thunderstorms and lightning in the near vicinity.

Have a great Labor Day weekend and stay safe.

Saturday Group Run– 9/1/2018

There is no planned core or yoga this week so I’m moving the start time back to 5:30 and 6 a.m for the full marathoners and half marathoners/walkers, respectively.

Full Marathon: 5:30AM – Meet at Turner High School parking lot.  Easy Run – 110 Minutes or 11 miles: Conversational easy pace (1-2 minutes slower than marathon pace)

ROUTE – run east on Bailey Rd. toward Bailey Bridge, continue past HWY 35 and south/right on Pearland Parkway and then east/left on Dixie Farm until you get 518/Main St.  If you turnaround at 518 and return to Turner, you’ll finish with 9 miles and that may be 110 minutes for you. If you need to finish your 11 miles, please run along Bailey toward 1128 and turnaround at 1 mile and you’ll finish with 11.

Please carry lighting and be careful when crossing the major intersections.

The Silver FM group has an option of running Memorial Park on Saturday. If you would like to join them, please go to the Silver FM page or contact Amy Catching.

Water will be provided at intersection of Pearland Parkway and Bailey Rd.

Half Marathon: 6:00 AM  Last week of Hills for the Half marathon group and Walking group.

Meet at Turner High School Track – east on Bailey Rd. toward Bailey Bridge.  Run for 60-70 minutes and at least 8 hills this week.   Run back and forth across the Bailey bridge at an easy or marathon pace.

The Silver FM group has an option of running Memorial Park on Saturday. If you would like to join them, please go to the Silver FM page or contact Amy Catching.

Water will be provided at intersection of west side of Bailey Bridge.

Walking group: 6:00 AM – Same as the half marathoners. Meet at Turner High School Track – east on Bailey Rd. toward Bailey Bridge.  Walk for 60-70 minutes, back and forth over Bailey Bridge until you allow enough time to walk back to Turner.

No yoga or core this week.

Chance for Hope Go Gold Fun Run – September 8, 2018

Again, this is a FANTASTIC event.  And it’s not your run of the mill 5k/10K race. FREE FOOD for the runners. A FREE RAFFLE for the runners. And it’s a raffle with GOOD STUFF, y’all. Stuff we love. And I’m not talking about a free t-shirt, people. Pearland came through to support Pearland…so you don’t want to miss out on that!  PARR members usually win a good number of these raffle items.  Then on top of all of that…fun kids’ activities and entertainment. Bring your family too…5k Walk or 5k/10k run. I know PARR will show up big, because that’s what we do! Here is the link to register => https://thedriven.net/event.race_reg/eid/10123145689? and please feel free to share the event outside of here too!

The Chance for Hope Foundation is PARR Member, Andrea Davidson’s foundation that she and her husband created after their son Chance, lost his battle with brain cancer in 2013. Learn more of her story and all the amazing things the Chance for Hope Foundation does to support the families of pediatric cancer patients => http://chanceforhopefoundation.org/

And we like to match and it’s nice to see almost every participant in their GO GOLD race shirt in support of September’s Go Gold Pediatric Awareness Month.

PARR Shirts and Wild Pear Gift Certificates

There are still many unclaimed $25 gift certificates from Wild Pear.  Again, if you signed up with PARR this season, you automatically received a $25 GC from Wild Pear to be used however you wish in the store.  So, please go to Wild Pear and claim and use your Gift Certificate – they have a record of who has picked up!

If you don’t have a PARR shirt, you should consider using your GC on a shirt.  No peer pressure but you’ll look good in Orange. Reminder that shirts can be (tried on) ordered at Wild Pear.

Hope you all have a nice Labor Day weekend!
