WEEK 8 – Saturday, 09/08/18

Hi Y’all,

Guess what? It’s the last week of scheduled hill training, and the Chance for Hope 5k/10k/fun run is this Saturday.  I think this week is a good time to take a big inhale and exhale, and congratulate yourself on your training up to this point in time.  Some of you may have started to feel some minor aches and pains and it’s always prudent to pay attention to these injuries.  A minor case of plantar fasciitis or shin splints can quickly flare up and turn into something more serious.  As I said at the kick-off party, taking a few days off is recommended and you won’t lose anything in fitness.  There is still plenty of time to get ready for your half marathon or marathon race in January.

For this Saturday, it’s likely many PARR members, including myself, and their family members will participate in the Chance for Hope run.  As a result, the Saturday run/walk group at Turner may be light on attendance, so if you’re planning on joining us for the first time on our Saturday scheduled run, don’t be discouraged or shocked if you don’t see many people at Turner.  Also, some members may be getting their long run/hill training done on Friday or Sunday, so feel free to join them if it fits your schedule.  There is a chance of thunderstorms on Saturday as well so please be mindful if you’re running Bailey Bridge.

Full Marathon: 5:00 AM – Meet at Turner High School parking lot.  Run for 120 minutes and at least 12 hills this week.   Run back and forth across the Bailey bridge at an easy or marathon pace.  You’ll likely finish 12 hills before 120 minutes, so feel free to finish your timed run by following the HM route or by running Bailey Rd toward 1128.

Half Marathon: 5:30 AM  Easy Run – 80 Minutes: Conversational easy pace (1-2 minutes slower than marathon pace)

Please carry lighting and be careful when crossing the major intersections.

The next PARR sponsored race is the 3rd Annual Pearland Turkey Trot. It’s another popular event for our members and their families, and it is only two months away on Thanksgiving Morning. There is a Kids K/1- mile walk/ 4-Mile Run/6-Mile Run. The proceeds benefit the Forever Parks Foundation of Pearland.

PARR Shirts and Wild Pear Gift Certificates

There are still many unclaimed $25 gift certificates from Wild Pear.  Again, if you signed up with PARR this season, you automatically received a $25 GC from Wild Pear to be used however you wish in the store.  So, please go to Wild Pear and claim and use your Gift Certificate – they have a record of who has picked up!

If you don’t have a PARR shirt, you should consider using your GC on a shirt.  No peer pressure but you’ll look good in Orange. Reminder that shirts can be (tried on) ordered at Wild Pear.

Furthermore, Wild Pear will likely have tri-blend tanks/t-shirts/v-necks with the PARR logo that will be available for order very soon.

See you out on the road!
