WEEK 24 – Let the Taper Begin

Y’all, MANY of you have registered for the PARR End of Season Dinner that is NEXT WEEKEND, January 7. BUT…many of you have not. Even if it’s just you and you know it’s free, we still need you to register for an accurate head count. We can’t have folks showing up at the door…it’s an actual sit down meal. We’re so fancy.  So please, get your procrastinating selves over and register. And if you can’t join us, we understand…and you don’t have to do anything. We had way too many people that said they were coming last year, that had to miss, that we had to pay for. Not fun. BUT, if you are coming, please do register yourself and bring your date. They’ll think you spent a small fortune, but really it’s $20. We won’t tell.

It’s a fun time.  Have I ever lied to you? Maybe don’t answer that.  Did I mention prizes? Yeah, there’s that. We had some pretty happy campers last year. With cool gear and fully bellies.

The Taper

Good news. You’ve officially completed all of the training you can do for your January race. The goal between now and January 15th is to bring your BEST SELF to the start line. And not screw up everything you’ve worked for! These magical three weeks are for allowing your body to fully recover from the beat-down you’ve been giving it for the past 23 weeks! So…DO NOT OVERDO IT. Don’t think that this is the time to start speed work or add junk miles. Seriously, give your body the rest it needs so it is ready to give it all on January 15th.

This Week

The schedule has an 18 mile fast finish for the FM and 8 mile for the HM group. This is the time to assess how YOU feel and what is right for you. I’m making the route an out-and-back out of Wild Pear. This will give everyone the opportunity to adjust to what they need pretty easily. I know lots are making adjustments based on how the training landed this season.  And that’s fine.  Not the time to play catch up.

Route will be the same for both groups, just a different turnaround. My turnaround points for the 8 miler and 18 miler distances, but you can use your watch for your customized distance!

FM – 5:00AM – Turn around at Gatecreek Drive on Dixie Farm for 18 miles

HM – 6:00AM – Turn around at Harkey for 8ish miles 🙂

Instructions for registering for the PARRty:

  1. Go to https://goparr.com/product-category/season-end-party Select “Member Ticket” first
  2. “Add to Cart” – Please note that each registered Member will have to register themselves under their own log in. We realize there are families that are all members, but we had to limit the FREE admission to ONE per member.
  3. Once you’ve added yourself to the cart and need to add a guest(s), scroll down and select the appropriate age group and add the same way.
  4. Once you’ve got your guest registered, click VIEW CART and checkout.
  5. If you’re not bringing a guest, then PLACE ORDER. If you are bringing a guest(s), then it will ask for your payment information.
