Week 7 – Saturday, September 7, 2019

Hi Y’all,
It’s Aimee Galley here again with your weekly dose of inbox running love!
We’re winding down phase one of the training schedule…with the last week of scheduled hills for the Full Marathon Group! Half Marathoners are the lucky ducks and wrapped theirs up last week. WOOHOO! This heat and humidity is no joke and combined with the hills and getting our foundation built is just brutal. Now is a good time to take a look at where you are and how you’re feeling. As our mileage has been increasing, that tends to be when new aches and pains present themselves. Don’t be afraid to take a rest day/days/week if you’re feeling something that isn’t right. There is plenty of time built into our schedule for setbacks and rest…so be kind to your body!
Chance for Hope Going Gold Fun Run
For this Saturday, there are several folks doing the Chance for Hope Going Gold Fun Run in Silverlake….which is just awesome! The support for this run…runners, volunteers and local Pearland sponsors has been amazing. Online registration for the race is now closed, BUT they will have registration at packet-pick up (Friday 1-7 PM at Wild Pear) and on race-day beginning at 6:00 AM. Race starts at 7:00 AM.
With the many combinations of 5K/10K/HM/FM folks…that high math is too much for me to coordinate what you need. So I will leave it up to you folks to get your additional miles (or not), depending on what you’re training for and which race you’re running! Just remember the race will start at 7 AM. With a bunch of food and kids activities to follow. Lastly…MAKE SURE TO STAY FOR THE RAFFLE (your bib is your automatic entry) – it will be at 8:45…tons of good stuff! And a reminder…they’d love everyone to wear their GOING GOLD fun run shirts for Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.
Saturday Group Run– 9/7/2019
With a large group running in the Chance for Hope Fun Run, the crowd out at Turner may be on the lighter side! If you are running from Turner this week, please get yourself started at the appropriate time.
Full Marathon: 5:00 AM – Meet at Turner High School parking lot. Run for 120 minutes and at least 12 hills this week. Run back and forth across the Bailey bridge at an easy or marathon pace. You’ll likely finish 12 hills before 120 minutes, so feel free to finish your timed run by following the HM route or by running Bailey Rd toward 1128.
Water will be provided at intersection of west side of Bailey Bridge.
Half Marathon: 5:30 AM – Easy Run – 80 Minutes: Conversational easy pace (1-2 minutes slower than marathon pace)
ROUTE – run east on Bailey Rd. toward Bailey Bridge, continue past HWY 35 and south/right on Pearland Parkway and then east/left on Dixie Farm until you reach 40 minutes, turnaround and return to Turner. Please be mindful of the FM folks that are running hills and stay single file going up and over the bridge.
Please carry lighting and be careful when crossing the major intersections.
Water will be provided at intersection of Pearland Parkway and Bailey Rd.
Walking group: 5:30 AM – Same as the half marathoners. ROUTE – walk east on Bailey Rd. toward Bailey Bridge, continue past HWY 35 and south/right on Pearland Parkway and then east/left on Dixie Farm until you reach 40 minutes, turnaround and return to Turner. Please be mindful of the FM folks that are running hills and stay single file going up and over the bridge.
NO CORE THIS WEEK.
#PARRPresents
Saturday, September 21st after the run, DC-Recovery (new local business in our area) will be set up to offer free massage and other services to us! Stick around and check them out, ask them questions about that nagging pain/injury you’re feeling and sample some of their services. Word on the street is they will have a massage table, so be sure to look pathetic at the end of your run that day
Thursday, September 26th @ 7 PM at Wild Pear – “Why We Run.” We’re getting up close and personal with a few of our very own PARR members! We have some pretty AMAZING people with great stories in this group! Do you know who has run a marathon in every state? Or who regularly runs a marathon EVERY WEEKEND? Or who overcame a tremendous 100+ lb weight loss and now runs with us? Or who has overcome (and still battles) major health issues, but gets out and joins us for runs? Meet these people and hear their stories! And, come share YOURS!!! We’d love to hear it. If your story motivates just ONE PERSON to be a little more dedicated, disciplined or grateful to be able to run, it was well worth sharing!
Check the Facebook group for invites to these two events. And be sure to thank Kaylin when you see her for totally BRINGING IT with all of our superb presentations this season!!!
