WEEK 18 – Saturday, 11/17/18

Hi Y’all,

Our short fall season suddenly felt like winter for a few days as we were required to bundle up (or put on a shirt) on our daily runs. Some of us love to run in the colder temperatures, so this time of year is perfect for us. And for those who prefer it to be warmer, just wait a few days. This is Texas and the warmth and humidity will return.

We are almost 9 weeks away from the Aramco Half and Houston Marathon as we welcome an early Thanksgiving next week and a school break for our teachers and children. I hope your training is going well.

Noticeably, I see fewer runners attend the weekly Saturday runs and as I spoke to a member last week, he told me he got off schedule and just found it difficult to get back on. Or some of you suffered an early setback or injury and have found it difficult to return. Even though our weekly mileage has increased every week, we will always welcome those who just want to run a few miles with the group so please don’t be intimidated by the high mileage if you want to run/walk with the group.

I want to give major kudos to Wild Pear/David Rosenthal and his great staff. The best thing about having a relationship with Wild Pear is they are always willing to open up their store early or late to allow us to host events or get out of bad weather conditions. And if you want a particular shoe or item, they will do their best to order it for you, if possible.

All of us are money/budget conscious and it’s easy to shop online to find the best deals, especially with Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Thrifty Tuesday or whatever is coming up during the holiday shopping season. I personally would just ask that you give Wild Pear a chance with your business. David will tell you if he can’t match an online deal but consider giving him a shot first.

Next week’s email will be brief and it may not go out until next Thursday so Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

#PARRRacing !!
Our members continue to run and participate in races all over the state, country and the world. Notably, McKenzie Salazar traveled to Athens, Greece and got engaged when her significant other proposed on the hilltop of the Acropolis. Huge congratulations to her!! Then she tackled the very hilly Athens marathon course to cap off her wonderful trip.

For this weekend, we will likely have many PARR members participating in the last of the Bridge Series in the La Porte Half Marathon on Sunday. We have three members traveling to Tempe, AZ to compete in the Arizona Full Ironman. I’m sure there are others racing in other parts of the state, so feel free to share your race pictures with the group.

I apologize if I don’t mention someone’s accomplishment or race in this newsletter, but I only report what I see or hear. Please feel free to drop me a text/email if you want to let me know about something you would like to be included.

My best to all of you on your races this weekend.

November 17, 2018 Dr. Eric Ramirez after Saturday run at Wild Pear @7:30 a.m.
Dr. Eric Ramirez, of Chirotecture Spine and Sports Clinic, right here in our own backyard, will be coming this Saturday after our run. He will be showing us a new piece of technology he has available to his practice (the ONLY one in Texas using this technology) to scan muscles to help specifically address imbalances, weaknesses, and injury. It’s fancy so please come and give it a test spin.
