WEEK 21 – Saturday, 12/08/18

Hi Y’all,
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems everything is picking up pace as we head into the end of the year. It’s only a matter of time before we are counting days and not weeks until the Houston Half/Marathon.
Congratulations to those who have already accomplished so many “firsts” throughout the season. And there are those who are still putting in the miles, while trying to avoid injuries to reach your goal in January. I wished I could say we’re on the “downhill” portion of training, but  we do have some of the longest runs of the season coming up. You’ve already come this far, discovered some things about yourself along the way, and must now know you will achieve your goal in January. This group and its members are the best people to support you during the last remaining weeks.
#PARRAngelTree
PARR continues to show our charitable nature by achieving a PR in the time it took to volunteer to donate to three families. Aimee just posted a reminder to please get the gifts to Lisa Sanchez by this Saturday. Thank you again for your generosity to these families.

We’re starting from Wild Pear again for our Saturday run and the FM and HM will have their longest run of the season. However, the weather may not cooperate on Saturday morning and there’s supposed to be quite a bit of rain and thunderstorms. If you’re planning on running on Saturday, please remember that we will run in the rain, but not in thunderstorms.

#PARRRacing
Our members continue to walk/run/race all across Texas, with many more races on the schedule from now until January. Last week, we had members running the last of the 10 mile series races, members were Rocking and Rolling in San Antonio and a few were #Rungirling it in Northeast Houston.
Our members continue to achieve PRs and podium finishes including Caroline Albritton (1st AG in Rungirl), Fern Erskine (2nd AG), and Lisa Ferrara (3rd AG in Rungirl). Again, if I miss someone, please let me know and I’ll be sure to mention it.
This week, we have several members running in the Bryan College Station (BCS) marathon as well as yours truly participating in my first 100-mile race (please say a little prayer that I complete this race so that you can continue to receive these nice little weekly PARR digests of valuable information. LOL) Good luck to these runners. Next week, we’ll have members participating in the Fort Bend 30k in Sugar Land and many members will be at the Santa Hustle 5k & Half Marathon in Galveston, which always looks to be a very fun and festive race.

Our End of the Season Dinner is January 12, 2019. If you are new this year, you are in for a treat! This wrap-up of the season is a great time to see what fellow runners actually look like in real life. We’ll serve dinner, visit a bit, a little speech here and there and some prizes, too. Fun night to reflect on the past 26 weeks…all that we have done and all of whom we have met.
BUT… you need to RSVP to reserve your seat(s) by January 6! PARR Members are free and PARR will be subsidizing a portion of each guest as well, to keep your cost at a minimum. Space and budget are limited… so RSVP/Register right away! Even if you are planning to come by yourself, you will need to RSVP/Register… as we need to have an accurate headcount and won’t be able to have anyone just show up on the evening of. Don’t worry, we will continue to remind you!
KIDS? Lots of questions asking if kids should come. That is entirely up to you. There are not a lot of kids that do come, but they are certainly welcome!
We will have an honor bar again, serving beer/wine for $2/$3 donations…
Here are the specifics, now GO RSVP:

  1. Go to https://goparr.com/parrty/ or choose End of Season PARR-ty from the Member’s Area menu. Click on the graphic.
  2. Select “Member Ticket” first. You will need to select your drink of choice before you click “Add to Cart.” We’re not necessarily going to hold you to this, but it definitely helps in our planning efforts.
  3. Please note that each registered Member will have to register themselves under their own log in. We realize there are families that are all members, but we had to limit the FREE admission to ONE per member.
