Week 4 – Saturday, August 17, 2019

Hi Y’all,

It’s Caroline here, Happy “BACK TO SCHOOL” week! Many of our PARR family are EXTRAORDINARY Educators/Administrators/Counselors in Pearland and the surrounding districts and hopefully are all refreshed and welcoming back excited students ready to write a new chapter. We are sending prayers and well wishes to you all for an amazing year. And for those prepping for those college send-offs, best of luck and prayers to you all. Back to school for many of us also means routine, which for most is always a good thing. From the looks of our FB page, you guys are really SHOWING UP and getting your runs in. GREAT JOB! Remember if you still need help, the PARR facebook page has leaders names and our group pace pages. Be sure to reach out and get connected. Find leader info under the announcements here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/246625075376797/announcements/

If you are still working on a few last recruits to “Come run with us,” those days are numbered. Registration will be closing Sunday, so do encourage your people to hurry up and “JUST DO IT!” ? The goal is to get everyone in and connected to their pace groups ASAP as we continue to build our base and start ramping up those miles.

#PARRwater
As we continue to “EMBRACE THE SUCK” of our lovely Houston heat and humidity, our GRATITUDE to our PARR Water Volunteer team is immense. We all love that ice cold water at the bottom of that bridge or the end of that run right? Please consider volunteering for our PARR Water team. Travis Shirley coordinates the schedule and you can add yourself by signing up via the SignUpGenius and joining the PARR Water FB Group. Travis has provided the instructions in the SignUpGenius. Let’s fill this up so we don’t have to worry later down the road. And if you’ve done this before, he made it WAY SIMPLER with a little help from our friends at Wild Pear. So be sure to read it and note the change. It’s a set out and pick up on the same day.

#PARRSaturdayRun
Full Marathon: 5:30 AM – Meet at Turner High School Track – MARATHON PACE RUN: 90 minutes. Easy pace for 20 minutes, followed by 20 minutes at Marathon Pace, followed by 50 minutes easy pace.

Route will be DIFFERENT THAN PREVIOUS WEEK. ROUTE – east on Bailey Rd. toward Bailey Bridge, continue past HWY 35 and south/right on Pearland Parkway and then east/left on Dixie Farm until you get to 45 minutes and turnaround back to Turner for CORE with the Camp Gladiator trainers.

Water will be provided at intersection of Pearland Parkway and Bailey Rd.

Half Marathon: 6:00 AM – Meet at Turner High School parking lot for Hills – 6 HILLS and 55 minutes on Bailey Bridge and back for CORE at 7:00AM with the Camp Gladiator trainers. You may finish the 6 HILLs before 55 minutes, so you may want to finish the 55 minutes along Bailey Road toward 1128. Water will be provided at west side of Bailey Bridge.

Walking group: 6:00 AM – 55 minutes – Meet at Turner High School parking lot for 55 minutes. You’ll walk east on Bailey Rd. toward Bailey Bridge and turn around at 27 minutes and head back to Turner for CORE with the Camp Gladiator trainers at 7:00AM.

All groups should be back at Turner parking lot at 7:00AM for CORE work with the Camp Gladiator trainers and should be wrapped up by about 7:15AM. Be sure to bring your mat or towel…that parking lot is tough on planking elbows.

#PARRPresents
Our next presentation will be this Saturday after our run. Our good friends at Camp Gladiator will be there to lead our post run CORE workout. Be sure to bring a towel and/or mat. You do NOT want to miss the opportunity to experience CG!

On Tuesday, August 27th @ 7 pm, we are in for a treat!! We’ll be gathering at our favorite running store, Wild Pear at 7 pm for a #PARRSocial!! It’s a chance to see what we all look like in regular non-sweaty attire! We will have a few treats and a chance to mix and mingle.

Dr. Cao from Smartbody will also be joining us during our social to discuss a few pertinent topics near and dear to our hearts: Injury Prevention, Stretching, Foam rolling, and more.

This one is particularly valuable for coming and seeing IN PERSON!!! It’s the perfect excuse to come socialize with your PARR friends 🙂

If you missed any of our Facebook Live Presentations, no worries. You can still watch them here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/246625075376797/announcements/
or access on the Main PARR FB page, under Announcements.

#GoingGOLD
Chance for Hope Going Gold Fun Run, is on Saturday, September 7.
It is a fantastic local race and provides you an opportunity to support a great cause and to get a gauge on your training. And PARR is a sponsor! You have the choice of a 5k or 10k. This race is very popular with our members, and the race organizer is one of our very own PARR members!

This race is a USTAF Certified course and can be used to earn a coveted spot in Coral A in the January Houston Marathon and Half Marathon (See timing requirements here). AND, this race has a great celebration after the race with pretty awesome raffle items and a ton of free activities for kids. They pour their hearts into this event, and it shows. We hope to see everyone out there, you can register for the race HERE.
