WEEK 3 – 08/06/16

Hi Y’all,

I hope everyone had a great week.  We are back on the hills this week to continue to build up our base.  We’ve got a total of 5 more Saturdays of hills, but who’s counting, right?!?  Your body will THANK YOU come that first long, easy run.

Pace Groups & Magic Mile Make-up

We are continuing to work on pace groups.  We’ll get those up as soon as we get everyone situated.  With so many new people…there are a lot I just don’t know what to do with! Like OVER A HUNDRED OF YOU. Folks in PARR last year, I’m happy to keep you where you were and will do that unless I hear otherwise.

We will have one final formal make up for the Magic Mile on Saturday for folks still needing/wanting to do. Plan to meet at the Turner track at 5:45AM. There will be someone there to announce before HM takes off for the bridge, so make sure your ears are perked up 🙂 You will probably have enough time for a few hills after that.

NEW FOLKS to PARR this year that haven’t done the Magic Mile. Will you help me out by doing one of the following:

A) Do the magic mile and let me know your time

B) Help me out with a previous race time or

C) Remember this request when you wonder why you’re not in a group 🙂

There are a handful that I will reach out to as well, as your distance HM/FM didn’t capture when you registered or you indicated BOTH.

Walking Group

We are kicking off a walking group this season also in the coming weeks! We are in the very beginning of getting this set up, if you are interested in being part of that, or have someone you know and love that is…let me know! I think this will be a great addition to PARR!

Saturday – Same Time, Same Place

Full Marathon: 5:30AM – Meet at Turner High School Track for Hills. 8 HILLS – 80-minutes on Magnolia Bridge

Half Marathon: 5:45AM – Meet at Turner High School Track for Hills – 5 HILLS – 60 minutes on Bailey Bridge

The group will then meet back at the track at 6:55AM for CORE work and should be wrapped up by about 7:10AM.  Be sure to bring your mat or towel…that track is tough on planking elbows.

A reminder of HILLS: The objective of this weekend’s run is completing the prescribed number of hills (hills are counted as UPs…each time you reach the top is ONE HILL) close to the pace suggested.  Easy run to the base of the bridge (just before you start the incline). Then you will run up the bridge (hill) at a 5-10K pace. Once at the top you can either jog or walk down to the bottom on the other side. Once you reach the flat part of the bottom of the hill, turn around and run back up and jog/walk to the bottom (flat portion) of the other side.  Just the bottom of the hill. If you have an odd number of hills one week, you will run to the top and turn around at the top of the hill and then easy run back to Turner to get the scheduled minutes of total running in for the day.  Please make sure that when running up/down the hill that you always stay to your right to allow people to pass on the left if they need to (going up or down). There will be a lot of folks on the hill so we need to make sure we leave everyone plenty of room.

Please let us know if you have any questions.  Have a great run!
